The Presidency has confirmed the resignation of the Minister of State Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva ahead of the All Progressive Congress, APC, governorship primaries in Bayelsa State next month.
Special Assistant to the President on Digital Communications, Bashir Ahmad in a tweet on his official Twitter handle confirmed the development after weeks of speculations about the intention of the Minister.
Ahmad tweeted “Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, and former Bayelsa state governor, H.E. Timipre Sylva, has resigned his appointment to contest in the next Bayelsa governorship election”.
Sylva has also sent a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari resigning his appointment & making his intention known to contest for the Bayelsa State Governorship Seat.

Sylva has been the Minister of State for Petroleum since 2019 when President Buhari was re-elected.
Sylva was governor of Bayelsa from 2008 to 2012.
He has made several attempts to return as the number one citizen in Bayelsa but failed.
