The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA) said it has traced the root of so many crimes in Nigeria to drug abuse. Its Chairman ,Retired Brigadier-General Buba Marwa said the increasing consumption of illicit drugs has become disturbing, especially as some violence in homes and in marriages has been traced to the use of illicit substance.

In view of this, the anti-drug Czar is pushing for drug integrity tests for intending couples as a vital step in tackling violence in marriages.Marwa explained that this should not be a problem since intending couples have always had to do one test or the other as pre-marital requirements. He submitted that since they can go for genotype, HIV and Pregnancy tests before marriage, the integrity drug test should not be a problem.
He appealed to parents to queue behind him on this policy to save the marriages of their children and to prevent the ugly scenes of violence in homes, stressing that premarital drug tests are a key factor in guaranteeing a stable home and a peaceful society.
Speaking also on the increasing violence in marriages traced to drug abuse, the spokesman of NDLEA, Femi Babafemi said the Agency has been inundated by requests for help from husbands and wives with drug addicts as spouses.
