The Nigeria Labour Congress,NLC says it shall resist any attempt to criminalise its constitutional right to peaceful protest against what it describes as the “ills” being perpetrated by operators of the Nigeria state.
The NLC said in line with its protest tradition, it makes bold to state that it has the capacity and the will to protest peacefully against wrongs by government when necessary, while urging all Nigerians to protest within the ambit of the law when they feel short-changed.
The NLC President, Joe Ajaero in an Easter Message, equally told Nigerian leaders at various levels of leadership, whom he said have brought upon the people pain, deprivation and acrimony, to not treat the virtues of Jesus christ as platitudes, but core values for healing, rebuilding, and repositioning of the country.
The NLC wants Nigerian leaders to see the commemoration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as an opportunity for deep reflection on the virtues of great love, sacrifice and of undying hope.
NLC used the statement to urge Nigerian workers, indeed all Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of Easter through manifestation of the spirit of love through forgiveness, sacrifice, hope and sincerity.
NLC insisted it owes it a moral obligation to continually remind the government of its duties and obligations to the people, and also the right to sensitise the people about their rights.
NLC then urged Christian faithful and their neighbours to celebrate the Easter in peace.
