The Central Bank of Nigeria,CBN, has directed all commercial banks to open for operation on Saturdays and Sundays to provide the notes released to them physically to customers and ensure that their ATMs are loaded. This is just as the Nigerian Labour Congress gets set to picket CBN offices nationwide over persistent naira scarcity.

The Acting Director, Corporate Communications Department of the CBN, Isa AbdulMumin, who said this in Abuja, on Friday also stated that their would be adequate monitoring to ensure compliance to the directive.
To show the seriousness of the directive, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele would personally lead teams set up to monitor the level of compliance by the banks in various locations across the country.

The CBN appealed to Migerians to be rest assured that the current situation would ease soon with the injection of more banknotes into circulation.
The CBN recently put the amount of cash in circulation at over a trillion naira, adding that more banknotes have been released from its vaults to commercial banks across the country as part of a coordinated effort to ease access to cash for Nigerians.
