Missing Official of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Abubakar Useni who allegedly absconded with 14 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and other materials during the last Saturday Governorship Election in Jos North Council area,Plateau State has been arrested.
The Missing BVAS, was part of the issue which caused chaos at the INEC Headquarters in Jos during the collation of the Governorship results.
The suspect was arrested on Tuesday,March 21,2023 at the Jos North INEC Office when he came to return the BVAS three days after he and others were declared wanted.
But in a dramatic twist of events, about 24 hours after the election was concluded, Useni who was declared wanted over the missing BVAS and other election materials in Naraguta appeared on Tuesday with 14 BVAS, claiming that he ran away due to tension at the collation center.
Contrary to the statement of the Suspect, INEC’S Registration Area Technical Support Staff for Jos North, John Cornelius, while gaving his own account of what happened said he only received a call From the suspect on Tuesday since they were declared wanted.
