Tragedy struck in the early hours of the New Year Day on Sunday at Ibara- Abeokuta,Ogun State as a couple was set ablaze,shortly after returning from the cross-over service.
the suspected arsonists believed to have trailed the couple to their private residence at Ibara Housing Estate before setting the home ablaze, were also reported to have whisked away the son of the victims to an unknown destination.
Family sources at the residence of the deceased said that the suspected arsonists were reported to have kidnapped the son alongside the housemaid, and threw them into a river along Adigbe-Obada axis of the town.
The victims were burnt beyond recognition with their remains later packed by policemen and other health officials at the scene, and drove to the hospital in an ambulance, while hundreds of symphatizers at the house were seen profusely crying over the sad development.
The husband, Kehinde Fatinoye was a staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), while the wife, Bukola was a staff of the Federal University of Agriculture (FUNNAB), Abeokuta .
Meanwhile, the police Spokesman for Ogun State,DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi has confirmed the incident, he said the Commissioner of Police,Lanre Bankole had also visited the only survivor of the alleged arson in the hospital. Oyeyemi said the Police Authorities have launched a high level investigation into the unfortunate incident.
