It’s the International Mental Health Week, May 9- 15, and the focus is on loneliness with the slogan # IveBeenThere. The slogan is to acknowledge the fact that most people have had to battle with loneliness at a point in time. But does it stop there? loneliness affects millions of people across the globe,and it’s also a key factor to poor mental health.

loneliness is a state of solitude or being alone, loneliness is actually a state of mind. Loneliness causes people to feel empty, alone, and unwanted. People who are lonely often crave human contact, but their state of mind makes it more difficult to form connections with other people.

Being healthy doesn’t mean you have to be happy all the time. Emotionally and mentally healthy people still feel stress, anger, lonely and sadness. Being healthy just means that you’re consciously aware of your emotions. You can acknowledge them, whether they’re positive or negative. 

These are some ways you can fight loneliness and improve or maintain good emotional and mental health:
