It has been altercations and Cross-fire between the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA and the Nigeria Police Force over the drug saga involving DCP Abba Kyari and four other Police Officers, even as the Federal Government might step in with an Independent Probe Panel. While the NDLEA in a press statement by his Director,Media and Advocacy,Femi Babafemi said it has no reason to shield anyone. The Police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi in a statement on the full investigation of Kyari’s drug dealings said two arrested drug couriers confirmed involvement of some NDLEA Officers in the narcotics cartel.

Adejobi said according to the statement of the wo arrested drug couriers, the cartel members have been enjoying relationship with the NDLEA officers at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport since 2021 and had in this instant case of 19th January, 2022, been identified and cleared by the NDLEA officers as having received their pre-departure photographs and other details prior to their arrival in Enugu, and were on their way out with the narcotics when they were apprehended by the Police.
Babafemi was quick to counter that the transcript of Abba Kyari’s recorded conversation with the NDLEA’S undercover officer and a portion of ASP James Bawa’s statement to the police as documented in the police investigation report established that it was the Abba Kyari’s team that was contacted by the cartel and without doubt the records clearly show how their ring works.

While the accusations and counter accusations continue, feelers from the Presidency told Action Now Against Drug Abuse that the Federal Government might step in with the appointment of an Independent Probe Panel of Crime Experts to look into the drug saga. This is just as indications are rife that the NDLEA was preparing to charge Abba Kyari and the four other policemen in its custody to court.
