Why are more women getting involved and getting bolder in drug trafficking? This is the concern as another pregnant woman, Eze Joy Chioma was arrested with 1,442 kilograms of imported skunk during a raid on two clandestine drug sores in Lagos by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.
Just before the recent arrest of 27 year old Joy Chioma, you will recall that several women, including a grandma have been arrested this year over drug trafficking. The National Council of Women Societies in Nigeria had also cried out in October over the alarming drug abuse by women, who also now hold drug parties, where each person comes in with varieties of illicit drugs to form a cocktail of drugs.

In the same vein, four men including a 62-year-old Basset Emmanuel were arrested with 182,000 tablets of Tramadol, while another suspect, Michael Oroke was also nabbed with 29kg of the illicit drug all in Lagos State.

In similar raids across eight other states of Rivers, Kogi, Benue, Adamawa, Anambra, Edo, Ekiti and Ondo, over 4,000 kilograms of assorted illicit drugs were seized. Spokesman of NDLEA,Femi Babafemi assured that all the suspects would be charged to court to serve as a deterrence to others.
