A 44-year-old Nigerian, identified as Sunday Izico Ozagu has been arrested in India by the Mumbra police for possession of 250 grams of mephedrone powder worth Rs 25 lakh.
He was apprehended based on a tip-off that some people would be coming near Diva dumping ground ,in Thane South West of India for drug dealing. Subsequently, a specialised squad led by sub-inspector Harshad Kale laid a trap for him.
The police found nearly 250 grams of mephedrone powder from his possession. He was thereafter taken to the police station where a case was registered against him under NDPS Act.
He was produced in the court and remanded to police custody for further probe.
The police said they are now working to unravel the drug chain behind Sunday’s group of traffickers and to whom he was going to supply. “He is a tough nut to crack and not revealing any information but we have sought the technical details of his phone record after which the other links would be probed,” the Police Chief said.
There has been a growing number of Nigerians arrested over drug trafficking in recent times. As a matter of fact, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA in Nigeria said 10,000 traffickers were arrested in 2021 alone.
