October 10 is the World Mental Health Day . Its a day set aside to create awareness of Mental disorder problems. Action Now Against Drug Abuse is using this day, to counsel against drug abuse, which is a major factor responsible for mental health disorder. Mental health and substance use disorders affect an increasing number of people globally. Sadly ,many people shy away from discussing Mental Health. Its like a taboo that should not be mentioned or for one to be associated with it. Today, it is estimated that 1 billion people worldwide have a mental health or substance use disorder , the largest number being people with anxiety disorder.
Major causes of Mental health disorders include: Stressful events ,like accident, loss of loved ones, or getting involved in an accident and long time illness. Negative thoughts is another problem, genetics, insomnia ,eating disorder, childhood trauma or nightmare, Another major problem which is fast gaining ground today is Drugs and alcohol abuse, this could trigger a big mental illness.
What then is the way out? Nature can be a fantastic way out. It has tremendous therapeutic or healing powers to calm nerves and restore mental disorder. By taking a walk, sitting by the riverside, swimming or having fun by the river banks can heal mental disorder.
Travel by rail with loved ones ,take photographs of important landmarks and cities. Visit a Zoo,play with friendly animals, can help bonding and warm up your spirit.
Learn to also talk about your problems, don’t bottle it all up ! Shy away from sedentary life, staying alone, or getting addicted to electronic gadgets and telephones. If you noticed someone in this “lonely box” just know that a mental disorder problem is involved, no matter how mild.
